Several Alamo Academies graduates from the Aerospace and Advanced Technology and Manufacturing Academies participated in the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce 4th Annual CORE4 STEM Expo at the Freeman Coliseum Expo Hall November 13th and 14th.  The graduates provided their perspective of participating in the Alamo Academies and shared their work and education experience with the local middle school students attending the CORE4 Expo.

Each of these graduates is currently enrolled in the Toyota Advanced Manufacturing Technician Program (AMT).  AMT includes a two-year Associate Degree that combines cutting-edge curriculum and a paid work experience along with learning highly sought-after business principles and the best practices of a world class manufacturer.  Over two years graduates from the AMT program can earn $30,000 to help cover education expenses.  The AMT offers a unique opportunity to earn a wage while attending college and gain priceless work experience with a global manufacturing leader.  This allows them to enter the job market with less education debt, more real-world work experience, and an advantage over graduates from other programs in getting the job they want.

The Toyota AMT Program blends classroom instruction with on-site experience at the Alamo Colleges Workforce Center of Excellence.  Classes will be offered at the Alamo Colleges nationally unique manufacturing campus in subjects including electricity, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication, and robotics.  Upon completion of the program, graduates will earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree.  As a student of the AMT Program you will attend two full days of classroom instruction per week, students must maintain a “C” or higher in all classes to remain eligible for the AMT program.  Students will work three days a week earning a wage starting at $12 per hour, potentially increasing up to $16 per hour.  They will also earn raises in pay by progressing in the program and employing new skills.  After completion of the AMT program students can possibly start a career with Toyota.  Graduates selected to be hired by Toyota have the potential to earn over $50,000 per year, plus excellent benefits.

Students wishing to apply for the Toyota AMT program must complete the Alamo Colleges application for admission; Toyota’s personnel will review and select the potential students on the following criteria:

Academic success as measured through grades/transcript.

Math Capability as measured through ACT, SAT or TSI Assessment.

Participation is preferred in one or more STEM focus programs:  Alamo Academies Advance Technology & Manufacturing Academy (ATMA), First Robotics, Pre-Freshman Engineering Program (PREP), Project Lead the Way (PLTW)

Must pass illegal drug test.
