BIOL 2401 – Human Anatomy and Physiology I
4 credits

Anatomy and Physiology I is the first part of a two course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including cells, tissues and organs of the following systems: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous and special senses. Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis.

ENGL 1301 – Composition I
3 credits

Intensive study of and practice in writing processes, from invention and researching to drafting, revising, and editing, both individually and collaboratively. Emphasis on effective rhetorical choices, including audience, purpose, arrangement, and style. Focus on writing the academic essay as a vehicle for learning, communicating, and critical analysis.

(2 courses / 7 credits)

BIOL 2402 – Human Anatomy and Physiology II
4 credits

Anatomy and Physiology II is the second part of a two-course sequence. It is a study of the structure and function of the human body including the following systems: endocrine, cardiovascular, immune, lymphatic, respiratory, digestive (including nutrition), urinary (including fluid and electrolyte balance), and reproductive (including human development and genetics). Emphasis is on interrelationships among systems and regulation of physiological functions involved in maintaining homeostasis.

ENGL 1302 – Composition II
3 credits

Intensive study of and practice in the strategies and techniques for developing research-based expository and persuasive texts. Emphasis on effective and ethical rhetorical inquiry, including primary and secondary research methods; critical reading of verbal, visual, and multimedia texts; systematic evaluation, synthesis, and documentation of information sources; and critical thinking about evidence and conclusions.

BIOL 2420 – Microbiology for Allied Health Majors
4 credits 

Introduction to historical concepts of the nature of microorganisms, microbial diversity, the importance of microorganisms and acellular agents in the biosphere, and their roles in human and animal diseases. Major topics include bacterial structure as well as growth, physiology, genetics, and biochemistry of microorganisms. Emphasis is on medical microbiology, infectious diseases, and public health.

PSYC 2301 – General Psychology
3 credits

Survey of major topics in psychology. Introduces the study of behavior and the factors that determine and affect behavior and mental processes.

Spring Semester 2nd Year
(3 courses / 9 credits)

PHIL 2306 – Introduction to Ethic
3 credits

Classical and contemporary theories concerning the good life, human conduct in society, and moral and ethical standards.

PSYC 2314 – Lifespan Growth and Development
3 credits
Study of the relationship of the physical, emotional, social and mental factors of growth and development of the individual throughout the lifespan.

MDCA 1313 – Medical Terminology
3 credits

Medical Terminology  3 credits The study and practical application of a medical vocabulary system. It includes structure, recognition, analysis, definition, spelling, pronunciation, and combination of medical terms from prefixes, suffixes, roots, and combining forms.

 

Second Year Total Program of Studies: 5 courses and 16 credits hours.

Two Year Program of Studies: 9 courses and 30 credits hours at Alamo Colleges – San Antonio College.
